E-Sword is a free program that allows users to read multiple versions of the Bible as well as access maps, topical dictionaries, and devotionals. E-Sword is packed with features, far more than the average free Bible reading program. Most free Bible programs only offer the text of the King James Bible. E-Sword does have the King James Bible as well as many additional modules including the NASV and Good News Bible. Users can purchase even more versions of the Bible for a small fee paid to publishers for licensing their content. The program and Bibles are available in many languages and have been downloaded in over 230 countries.

While e-Sword is powerful and packed with features, it is user friendly, even for people who are new to using a computer. Its intuitive layout makes this a great choice for new users and power users alike.

One of the strengths of E-Sword is its highly customizable layout with ability to let users read two versions of the Bible in parallel. It also contains a verse comparison feature to allow the user to see the verse in several translations including the original Hebrew and Greek.

E-sword contains commentaries, dictionaries, concordances, maps, charts, devotionals, a STEP library, a sermon illustrations tool, and a thesaurus. All these are searchable, and E-Sword has a fast, flexible search engine under its hood. The search editor understands regular expressions, making it possible to do targeted searches with vast amounts of data. Users can add bookmarks and notes to any of the material in E-Sword. E-Sword has the ability to store both topical and study notes, helping users remember what they've learned.

The notes editor contains a spellchecker, dictionary, and thesaurus. Users can print and share their notes, easily pasting content into a tweet or Facebook post.

Users can also create prayer request notes, Scripture memory plans, and daily reading plans to help them learn and apply God's Word more deeply. E-Sword integrates with content from eStudySource and SermonAudio.com .

There are versions of E-Sword available for the iPad, iPhone, and Pocket PC. There is also an E-Sword Live edition for people who use the Mac or Linux.
